12/13/2016: Weeks

Christ, sorry for ignoring this site for so long.

Had finals coming up, and wanted to squeeze out that last bit of effort from my lifeless body.

But I'm back! Sort of, I have school in a few more weeks once again.

But of course, I always have time to post a lot of no effort blog posts with single images.

By the bizzle, Owlboy turned out to be okay. It tries a little hard too to be a game with surface level mechanics and than progressively deeper than allowed lore. It worked for a lot of other games and developed cult followings thereafter, we get it. It still feels forced, and it obviously did not work for the writer as the following for Owlboy has died down almost immediately after release. The game would have been fine if the story was more pronounced than initially presented. Collecting collectibles to find out more of the ~deep~ story is a meme.

Speaking of memes

I bought the meme station 4. I cannot wait for all those exclusives to start popping out in a year, Persona 5 in particular. Preordering the school bag edition foreal.

07/12/2016: It's time to mix drinks and change lives.

"Welcome to Valhalla" are the first words you hear when walking in. You see a bar. A few patrons scattered about in booths, and the bartenders are making banter with a few of the guests. The smell of dog piss lurks the air and jazz permeates the room.

You are now in the comfy world of VA-11 Hall-A.

Play as comfy
The game advertises itself as a cyberpunk bartending game. However, in terms of actual gameplay and mechanics, the 'game' part comes off as very light. The interactions come from the drinks you serve to your patrons. Mentioned patrons you should, as well as want, to get to know very soon in the next 14 hours of game to optimize the drinks you serve to them. This combination combined with great world building makes this my favorite game of 2016.

Read the comfy
As mentioned before, the game part is very light. The game is in pseudo visual novel format, and the decisions aren't as direct as a question with four answers. Instead, you treat your patrons. Treat them right, as in serve them the right drinks at the right time, and you'll be rewarded to entertaining dialogue and great banter. The world is built around what you read, and catching all the juicy bits of dialogue is worth the 2nd or 3rd play through. I mean this. The level of world building is top notch. I've never been this invested in a world I haven't even seen nor interacted with, yet I wish I was there to see the horde of shiba inu in business suits ordering drinks and making a mess of the bar. I'm not making that up, it happened. In the game. I'm way too invested in this. With everything going on around the bar, the experience becomes that much more personal with the patrons and yourself. I've grown fond of all the characters so far; except for the ginger shit head I hate him he sucks. The writing does a great job of making you care, much kudos to the writer once again. I've already tweeted my thanks to these guys, but I'll mention it here again. I am impressed. There was a time I was even genuinely worried about a character because of the events transpiring in game. Not knowing the whereabouts or even if you're going to see a certain character again was very stressful for me. Bravo.

The soundtrack is controlled through an in game jukebox, which I thought was very clever. It made sense within the context of the game, and allowed me to choose whatever tracks I wanted. The only problem with it is the 5 second buffer to load the preview for a song. I hated that, but I suppose it was needed somehow. Despite what some say, the music does change to the situation. This happens mostly outside of work whenever the mood changes. Lots of electro beats and whatnot, it is the future after all.

Buy the comfy
tl;dr
For 15$, you get the comfiest game to ever exist. If you aren't into a game because of it's anime aesthetic, then that sucks for you enjoy your stuffy uncomfortable hell.
If you like waifu pandering visual novels with great storytelling and a clever setting that is clearly worth more than 15$, I definitely recommend this. You won't regret reading this ever.
As of now, this is my favorite game of 2016.

06/05/2016: Heroes

I am brought before you today to write this blog post today about this movie I just watched today.

Having been reminded of this through constant angst-city reminiscing, I remembered this certain movie through a certain someone praising it upon seeing it with friends.

Going through somewhat of a turbulence right now in my life, I thought I'd check it out to get some cool coming-of-agey thoughts out of the movie.

Holy shit! Finding a picture I can 'borrow' from the internet, and all I'm treated to is a wall of fucking facebook posts! I do not give a fuck! Hold on! Okay fuck it

I watched 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower." I know what you're thinking. Uncookedsooshi, are you actually a thirteen year old girl who posts lyrics on facebooks while hinting at her gnawing angst?

I had to look in the mirror myself to make sure I wasn't, but no I am a 23 year old male with neckbeard and an overtly large steam game collection trust me I am the opposite. I hope.

Anywho, the movie starts out with almost Michael Cera finishing middle school and entering high school where all the other almost-vaguely-resembling-adults highschoolers attend as well.

Ok, I'm being harsh. I actually like the movie. The dialogue was stiff, but I suppose that's the result of adapting a novel from the 1990's. Lots of memorable lines, resulting in tandems of tumblr gifs after another quoting the damn thing.

The film does a wonderful job with cinematography. The setting is never explained, but you can definitely sense a 90's jive, and if not, honestly the setting is so vague that it works out in it's own favor. Absolutely timeless, and virtually always relevant. I actually had a hard time pinning the time the movie takes place, but I started to think that it really does not matter.

I fell kinda hard for the music. The same way I did for the Nice Guys soundtrack even. I suppose it's a nostalgia thing, but I also downloaded the soundtrack for this movie, which is made up entirely of tracks pre-90's and a few after. Reminds me of my younger days when my dad popped in a cassette into his Sony Walkman and gave me a listen. I hated it back then, but now I can really jam with the best. That is to say, I'm just getting old.

Perks of Being a Wallflower is a wonderful coming of age story for anyone that wants to relive the 90s and experience the melodrama of youth. This sounds negative but the movie does a well job of reminding me that although I thought my younger days were super totally awesome, I actually really sucked back then and it's good to come out with it now.

If you'll excuse me, I have a good, lengthy facebook post to share with the internet, and you better believe they're filled with song lyrics and subtle hints at my quarter life crisis.

Oh and besides that, I bought Senran Kagura. I'll post about it later though, but have a piccy
